Why I Create Photographs

Why?

Why am I here? Why did that happen? Why am I creating photographs?

My own reasons for creating photographs are quite different to most. The art of photography is more of a practice than a hobby or a profession. The pursuit of a photograph represents the pursuit of myself.

So, who am I?

Well, I am both everything and nothing. I am the same trees that I point my camera at, and I am the mountains and the water, too.

These photographs that I share are self portraits in some ways, for I am in Nature and Nature is in me. We are not separate from or superior to Nature. When we damage her, we only damage ourselves.

She is the gateway to our own soul – the word ‘soul’ being singular for a reason. We are one. So why are we so intent on dividing ourselves into race and religion and separating ourselves at every opportunity?

Nature is the only thing that unites us all. She is our common mother. From her we come, and back to her we will go.

Our bodies die but our thoughts live on, and that, for me, is why I create photographs.
